Prof. Subbarangaiah Kopparapu

Prof. Subbarangaiah Kopparapu is a distinguished academician, a pioneering industrial visionary, and a committed social reformer. For more than five decades, he has moved seamlessly between the rigors of fundamental science, the complexities of the global semiconductor industry, and the essential work of strengthening democratic participation.
Academic Tenure and Foundation (1977 – 2006)
For 29 years, Prof. Subbarangaiah served Sri Krishnadevaraya University as a Professor of Physics. His tenure was defined by a deep-seated commitment to the principles of scientific research and the nurturing of thousands of young minds. This academic foundation provided the structural discipline that would later become the hallmark of his professional and institutional leadership.
Research Contributions and Scholarly Legacy
Throughout his illustrative career, Prof. Subbarangaiah has made profound contributions to both fundamental science and applied technology. A dedicated research supervisor, he has guided several Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars and authored nearly 50 research papers in reputed national and international journals. His scholarly work spans experimental physics and instrumentation—including liquid-state thermodynamics, ultrasonics, materials characterization, and medical physics linear accelerator dosimetrics—as well as modern advanced VLSI methodologies, SoC design, and low-power challenges at deep sub-micron nodes presented across key international technical forums.
The Visionary Bridge (1997 – 2006)
In 1997, recognizing the burgeoning potential of the VLSI sector, Prof. Subbarangaiah embarked on a unique mission to bridge the gap between university education and industrial needs. During this pivotal decade, his services were provided on lien from Sri Krishnadevaraya University to Qualcore Logic and VEDA IIT. This transition was instrumental in establishing one of India’s most successful industry-university partnerships.
Leadership in the “Teaching Industry” (1997 – Present)
As Director and Head of VEDA IIT since its inception, he has provided nearly three decades of steadfast guidance. Under his stewardship, VEDA IIT evolved into a global benchmark for technical excellence, training around 5,000 engineers who now lead design teams at premier firms worldwide. His strategic insights have also been vital to the corporate world, where he has served on the Boards of Directors for several pioneering organizations, including:

Civic Leadership and Social Impact (2008 – Present)
Beyond the laboratory and the boardroom, Prof. Subbarangaiah has demonstrated a profound commitment to the health of our democracy. As a Co-founder of “Let’s Vote” in 2008, he channeled his organizational expertise into a national movement to enhance voter awareness and participation. His leadership in this sphere was recognized at the highest level when he received the National CSO (Civil Society Organization) Award on behalf of Let’s Vote, honoring the organization’s significant contributions to strengthening democratic engagement in India.
Recent Honors and Recognition
In recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to technical education and industry-academia synergy, Prof. Subbarangaiah was conferred with the prestigious Duddilla Sripada Rao Lifetime Achievement Award on March 2, 2026 (for a lifetime of dedication, excellence, and outstanding contributions in Research and Capacity Building in VLSI and Semiconductor space, leaving a lasting impact and inspiring others). This honor highlights his enduring dedication to technical and vocational education, innovation, and his transformative impact on generations of engineers.
